Who Needs Trick-Or-Treating When You Can Eat Candy Right off Your Dress?
October 19th, 2010 § Leave a Comment
The latest Halloween costume craze this year could be wearing your candy as your dress. Candy and art have always played nice together and recently, Dylan’s Candy Bar in NYC has made waves in the fashion industry by pairing with Candy Couture. Six students at the Savannah College of Arts and Design recently competed against one another in a competition for the most delectable dress.
The competition included the Taffy Blossom by Wei-Ting Liao, Fashion Fringe by Eduardo Calvo, Jawbreaker by Jaime Barker, Candiva by Storm Dorris, Jolly Ranchero by Julie Tierney and I-Candy by Kashfia Mariam. These 6 students purchased candy in bulk to make their dresses so expansive and elegant. The judges included Michael Fink, Paula Wallace, Andre’ Leon Talley and Dylan Lauren. The winner ended up being “Jawbreaker” by Jaime Barker (pictured). This stunning dress had some close competition but the hard candy shoulder shawl proved to be the selling point of this piece. These dresses definitely expand the boundaries of fashion vogue. Some are Gaga-esque while others are Beauty and the Beast elegant. Still, candy seems to be the most versatile of all the confections.
So when deciding your Halloween costume this year just imagine trick-or-treating in sour punch straws, or bobbing for apples in jawbreaker candy. Also, if you are interested, the SCAD designs are displayed in Dylan’s front windows and throughout the store until Oct. 31. So if you are in NYC, go check out the displays!
Best Jelly Belly Combination Recipes You Didn’t Know About
October 15th, 2010 § 1 Comment
We all remember the jelly bean flavor recipes as kids. For me, my greatest memory was forcing my younger sister to taste test combinations before they were fit for my taste buds. We would spend hours searching for the perfect recipe; mine was two Orange Sherbets and one French Vanilla. My sister’s favorite flavor was Dr. Pepper, which as you know is a dark brown, almost black jelly bean. On occasion I would slip a licorice jelly bean (which is the grenade of all Jelly Belly Jelly Beans) in the place of a Dr. Pepper and just watch as her face changes from curious to “WHAT THE #*(@#”. Anyways, the point of that story is to tell you that we have extensive knowledge of Jelly Belly flavor recipes, what works and what doesn’t. Here are our top flavor combination’s that you didn’t know about.
2 Peach + 1 Sizzling Cinnamon=Sizzling Peach

Twix Coconut or Snickers Peanut Butter Squared?
October 7th, 2010 § Leave a Comment

Earlier this summer Mars made headlines with their announcement of Snickers Peanut Butter Squared (Dec 2010).This week we have the announcement of Twix Coconut (April 2011). Twix Coconut already adds to a growing line of Twix Products, including Twix PB, Twix Java and Dark Chocolate Twix. Twix Coconut and Snickers Peanut Butter Squared were showcased at the NACS show in Atlanta this past week. They both created a bit of buzz around the show, and Twix Coconut seems to be targeting the niche coconut and “Cocoa- nut”.
Snickers Peanut Butter Squared is the only one that we got to taste test . Let me tell you that it is a game changer for Mars, the two square bars are so good that we were tempted to skip dinner and pound the peanut butter parade all night long. The traditional rectangle nougat is shaped in to two convenient squares for snacking. The squares are filled with everything in the traditional snickers bar +peanut butter. In this bar the peanuts are rested in a layer peanut butter instead of caramel, and the caramel covers the inner coating. The perfect medley of flavors is what makes the Snickers PB^2 my favorite new treat.
Both Twix Coconut and Snickers PB^2 are going to fill a void in their respective product lines but Snickers will appeal to a mass audience, where as Twix Coconut will fill a niche void. San Diego candy stores will begin carrying these products soon and I really can’t wait till December!
